Hello guys, here’s a quick blog post explaining how you can effortlessly pick out some basic essentials for your wardrobe and put them together for a smart casual outfit. Before we move on, what actually is a smart casual outfit?
Smart casual means getting that informal style right without being too casual at the same time, so you could pair a blazer with a shirt or a T-shirt, then throw on a pair of trousers/jeans and you’ve got yourself a smart casual look. It basically means not too smart and not too casual which seems easy and simple but when you get an invite with ‘Dress Code: Smart Casual’ written on it, its really confusing and unclear so as to what pieces we should pick.
You can either go for smart oxford shirts or denim shirts with a more casual lower half like slim fit jeans or you can also do the opposite by pairing a crew neck neutral tee with tapered chinos.
I’ve teamed my white basic crew neck t-shirt with a sky blue tapered chino and then layered the outfit with a dark red blazer. Darker outerwear and lighter inner layers usually draw the eye towards your face and make your outfit look easy and natural. Choose one item of a medium colour and then match it with neutrals to add some contrast to your look, that’s what I’ve done.
Haven’t added any wrist wear accessory to this attire so that I don’t make it a little more on the casual side. Remember, you should always ensure that wrist wear suits the occasion. A wayfarer is a must while going out, so took them with me too. For footwear, I went for my favourite black loafers from United Colours of Benetton as loafers, brogues, Casual: exploring your chukkas are shoes which are clean and go easily with chinos and jeans.
Tips to pulling ofCasual:
Choose well fitted but neutral legwear, such as slim fit jeans or tapered chinos.
Try out different shirts like ones with granddad collars or patterns for an alternative to the white oxford shirt.
If you’re going for knitwear make sure it’s slim fit.
For jackets, choose ones that are well fitted and in a neutral colour, so they can be matched with various outfits.
So, next time you’re opting for a smart casual outfit, just go take some basics out of your wardrobe and do the ‘Trial and Error’ thing and you’ll surely get something new. I’ve always explored your wardrobe pieces if you do so you are sure to master the art of mixing and matching. If at all you’re confused at times between some items after opening your wardrobe the just rush to my blog to get some help on styling that outfit.
